Astaxanthin is a part of carotenoid complex, is a powerful antioxidant that is structurally similar to beta-carotene. Astaxanthin contains the highest relative antioxidant activity when compared with alpha- tocopherol, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, and lycopene.
